This album doesn’t quite live up to its predecessor, but it is still much more of an achievement than the pre-Yoshimi days. Dwelling on political commentary and the “rise up” mentality, At War With the Mystics attacks the current administration with its catchy pop lyrics and acid-folk scatterbrain beats. Highlights include the opener “Yeah Yeah Yeah Song” and “The Sound of Failure.” My major problem with this disc is that is trails off towards the end…it’s a first half album. When all the songs towards the end sound the same, you are only left with a feeling of dissatisfaction.
