Matmos
The Rose Has Teeth in the Mouth of the Beast
[3.5/5]
Often artists try to push limits by testing the dynamics of the musical experience. Artists like Boards of Canada and Ryoji Ikeda have redefined what we, as listeners, would classify as music. Matmos could be classified in a similar genre; however, they test our ears in a more subtle manner. They loop original progressive electronic session and pose philosophical question into a well defined stylish album. Although some of the more experimental tracks ask for a deeper level of listening, they can become boring after several listens. About half of the tracks on this album deem a praiseworthy tag, but the other half are only for a select group of listeners. This is an album to check out if you are looking for something a little “out there.”
